Silver Screen Classics to Star at Motors & Masterpieces

A special selection representing the most famous ‘Wheels of the Silver Screen’ is set to star at the upcoming Motors & Masterpieces automotive festival, which will take over the Melbourne Showgrounds from November 22-24, 2024.

Amongst a showcase of over 200 vehicles spanning from vintage to modern high-performance supercars, a highlight will be a 1985 Ferrari 308 GTS QV Targa, which starred in the hit TV series Magnum PI as driven by Tom Selleck.

One of the last vehicles that was used in the program, the 308 was auctioned at the conclusion of the series before being shipped to Australia.

Another iconic car set for display is a 1968 Ford Mustang GT, paying homage to the example that starred in the Steve McQueen film Bullitt, with that movie’s car chase sequence noted as one of the most iconic in cinema history.

One famed model on show will be an Aston Martin DB5, a machine synonymous with the James Bond franchise, starting with the 1964 film Goldfinger.

Closer to home, a pair of XB Ford Falcons pay tribute to the legendary yellow Interceptors from Mad Max, while an original-condition DMC DeLorean will bring back memories of the Back to the Future franchise.

Another crowd favourite will be a Chevrolet Camaro SS RS Transformer edition styled after the Bumblebee Autobot.

Only 371 of the yellow and black six-speed manual V8s were produced worldwide, with a pair of the cars now residing in Australia.

From the small screen, popular showpieces will include a Pontiac Trans Am replica of K.I.T.T. from Knight Rider as driven by David Hasselhoff, and a Dodge Charger, restored as General Lee from the Dukes of Hazard series.

Lovers of UK television will connect with the Volvo P1800, the model that Roger Moore drove in the 1960’s crime series The Saint, and a Jaguar MK2 3.8, a feature of Inspector Morse.

Elsewhere in the Showgrounds, one of the finest collections of cars and motorcycles assembled on these shores will make Motors & Masterpieces a must for automotive enthusiasts.

The festival’s ten key themes include La Dolce Vita, California Dreaming, Tokyo Lights, Swinging London, Great Southern Land, Golden Age, High Society, Continental Classics, Monaco Glitz and Chequered Flag.

In addition to the array of assembled machinery, the event will showcase the flair of the Australian automotive community’s best creative talent by collaborating with Lennox St. Gallery for the Art and Photography Competition, with $10,000 in prize money on the line across the two categories.

Also, the event will feature a series of panel discussions encompassing a range of topics pertinent to the classic car and motorcycle movement.

The Motors & Masterpieces Charity Auction will partner with respected auction house Donington Auctions to raise funds for the event’s charity partner Challenge, supporting children and families living with cancer.
